Whats up with all these Monsters?

part one, The Village

Hi!

I hope you’ve been well and are happy about the return of Spring to the northern hemisphere…

Unlike the very grumpy old dollmaker, Baba Yana who caused a bunch of trouble. More about her in a minute.

This collection of dolls is pretty large, so I’m splitting them up into two emails. This one will be all about a small village and its inhabitants.

the story

In a little village near the sea lived a very old, grumpy dollmaker and her little pig. She loved making dolls all winter, when it was quiet and beautiful and gloomy and dark and absolutely no one bothered her. So, when Spring and Light and Life began again, she decided that she needed to create some Monsters to scare all of these horrible things away. She made some small monsters in her workshop, muttered an old spell. And then the Big Monsters came.

Using scrap wood and salvaged wood, I created 4 little houses and carved 4 little babas (and their pet pigs) to live inside. Everyone but Baba Yana has a mattress to sleep on (she doesnt sleep, she just makes dolls. i swear this is not autobiographical. ok. it is.) I have wanted to make multiple little houses for a VERY long time, and am so happy to have been able to do this. Seeing them all together makes me incredibly happy. I’m kind of making my dream Playmobil set.

I also made a church. Baba Nikoletta tends to the church and the grounds.

I really love the church. The front is made from a beautiful piece of salvaged wood that I’ve been saving and is hinged, so can open. Inside is a pew that Baba can sit on and a cross that hangs from the ceiling. The church comes with the skeleton, gravestones, Baba and pig.

Three little sailors are out at sea in their tiny boats when one of the monsters emerges from the water
