Hello all!
I hope everyone is having some sort of semblance of a nice and peaceful dark season. The snow has been falling here in our little corner of New England and our woodstove has been very busy keeping us warm. Oh, and SOUP!
Anatomica
I have a small handful of dolls ready for my shop, which could conceivably arrive for Christmas ( I will be shipping everything on Tuesday 17th December).
I have been slowly working on this large anatomical doll over the last year, and she is finally ready to share! Her name is Marta, Anatomica.
Marta is 25 inches long, and was made with wire, clay, linen and she has dark woolen tresses. I made her a 29 x 9 inch wooden box, which is framed with beautiful salvaged wood, and there is an antique drawer handle on top. It can be hung from a wire on the back. She can come out of her box and can also be dressed in a black linen frock that comes with her. I’ve always been fascinated with human anatomy (thank you, set of World Book Encyclopedias that I got when I was a kid, and your beautiful acetate overlays!), and the old wax and wooden anatomical models and teaching tools used by medical students long ago. This is what inspires my anatomical dolls.
Unfortunates
I also had a hankering to work with my carving knife, and alas! Six sad little Unfortunates emerged! I was so happy to have some time to carve.
I love making these little guys, and writing their sad wee stories. In the top row, from left to right is Bella, Millie, Benito and Karl Hoffstedt. The bottom two are Daniel Fornay and Rasmusson. The Unfortunates are inspired by the tiny coffins found in the cave on Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh, Scotland. If you are new to this story, please read about it, it’s fascinating.
shop
I will be putting Marta, Anatomica and the six Unfortunates in my shop tomorrow at 12 pm EST. I will give everyone on my mailing list an hour to shop before I announce the dolls on my Instagram. Marta, Anatomica will cost $625 and The Unfortunates are $100 each. Free ground shipping within the US. (If you need something to arrive quickly, I can ship Priority, but you’ll have to pay for that.) Also, if Marta, Anatomica ships overseas, there will be extra postage required (she’s big.)
I think that’s it! Please reach out with any questions you might have: janachristy@gmail.com
I hope everyone has a really, really, really, really peaceful holiday and that you all celebrate whatever you want to celebrate in whatever way you want to. Here at the Seven household, we will be eating lots of cassoulet and bread on December 25th.
