After the really intense lead-up to the Dear Death show last month, my brain needed a change. After resting up a bit, packing up orders, cleaning up my studio, staring at my empty-ish workshop…
my brain and hands grew restless. I know that I didn’t want to work with clay, I needed a break from that. I grabbed my carving knife and a chunk of wood and started carving. I had some vague sketches that fell out of my brain as I was finishing DD, really rudimentary stuff. I needed simplicity. So I started with those in mind and let the wood take me where it wanted from there.
Leopold, the Demon King came first. Carved of wood and with a little crown cut from an old soup can
Clotilde came next. She is a witch and also, i suspect some sort of royalty. I have a feeling that Leopold really really loves her.
Then out came everyone else in a big tumult…
A slew of little tiny unfortunate dead people in coffins also came spilling out.
This has been a lovely, freeform stretch. A welcome release from a large meticulously planned collection.
And so now, everyone is done and they need to find their new homes. I will have all of these folks in my etsy shop tomorrow at 12 pm EST. The large wooden dolls come with their own stand (which they can also detach from) and will cost $275 each. The Unfortunates will cost $125 each.
