Hello all,
The Dear Death show at the Morbid Anatomy Library in Brooklyn last weekend was pretty amazing. Lots of people came, conversations about death and it’s acceptance were had, many friends traveled quite a ways to show their support… it was just spectacular.
The remaining pieces of art are currently in the Morbid Anatomy online shop, I am offering free shipping within the US on the art currently available.
There is also a booklet that we had printed up, with photos of all of the artwork.
One of the things I loved about creating work for the show, was the freedom it allowed me to play with scale and detail- things that are often lost with art sold exclusively online. This piece, Beauty in Decay, is quite large, the figure that rests within the frame is nearly life-size. I never would’ve created her on this scale if she was just going in my etsy shop. I love that I was able to allow myself time sitting with her, weaving bits of intestines and ferns together, creating flowers and insects out of silk… exactly how I envisioned them. I dont know when i’ll have another opportunity like this, so play I did.
Here are some photos of the work in the library…
I’ve been working on this project for the last year. The fact that it is over perplexes my brain. I kind of don’t know what to do with myself. It really does feel like little bits of my soul have been left behind somewhere, and i cant find them, or move on until they grow back. I’ll start working again next week, I have lots of ideas of things I am very excited to get started on, but i need a couple more days of resting up, sprouting new bits of soul (my hands keep reaching for wood and my carving knife, so i think it’s starting) and processing what happened last weekend.
I will mostly likely be making prints of the some of the work available soon, if there’s anything that you’re specifically interested let me know in the comments!
