Anatomica
hello everyone,
i am going to just have to trust that your June was alright and that you’re intact after the Supreme Court just whammed us back in time.
Lord-y.
I have two new anatomical dolls that will be in the Morbid Anatomy Museum online shop tomorrow, July 1st at (approximately) 2 pm, EST.
Rosalund, Anatomica
I carved Rosalund out of wood. i love carving dolls out of wood, and I will definitely be doing more of this. It’s all about taking away as opposed to building layers, and it’s just a fascinating process. Her limbs were jointed somewhat like a marionette, which was another great challenge. Her wee organs, which were also carved from wood can be removed, and she lies within a dried moss-lined handmade coffin. Watching Rosalund come to life on my workbench was magical. She is 13 inches long.
Viola, Anatomica
Viola came about because I wanted to make an anatomical doll that was a little bit larger than previous, but still… manageable. I also had a vision I couldn’t get out of my head of an anatomical doll with wine red hair.
Her torso and limbs are wrapped in linen, and her hair is mohair. I’m quite taken by her. She is 18 inches long and her handmade coffin is about 23 inches. She makes quite a statement, hanging a wall, reminding us about how delicate and yet how very, incredibly strong and resilient we are.
What’s next?
I am creating some new dolls, all sorts, but nothing anatomical, for the Darksome Virtual Summer Darkness Market. on Fri, Jul 29, 2022, from 10:00 AM through Sun, Jul 31, 2022 5:00 PM. I will send more info on that as the event approaches. I’m having a blast experimenting with new (for me) doll-making techniques and just following my hands where they lead for this.
I hope you all have a peaceful July, a hell-raising July, or something in between, as long as you enjoy it.
